Sussex are facing a desperate hunt for a doctor to get Luke Wright back into action.

Wright will miss today’s County Championship clash with Somerset after aggravating a knee injury which sidelined him for the opening two weeks of the season.

The England all-rounder did not bowl in the victory over Nottinghamshire last week after breaking down during the warm-up before the second day’s play and missed the CB40 clash with Derbyshire on Sunday.

He is unlikely to travel to Canterbury on Sunday for the one-day match with Kent and his prospects of being available for the visit of Yorkshire in the County Championship the following Sunday depend on Sussex finding a doctor to administer an injection in his knee.

Coach Mark Robinson said: “It is frustrating because there is only one person who is able to do it and he is not available at the moment.

“Because Luke is an England player it has to be someone approved by the ECB but we are trying to find someone else to quicken the process up.

“It will take between seven to ten days once Luke has had the injection before he can play again so the sooner he has it the better as we would like him to be available for the Yorkshire game.”

Wright’s absence means Robinson faces a dilemma over the balance of his team as Sussex bid to extend their unbeaten run in division one to five games.

Ollie Rayner could come straight into the side after returning from a loan spell at Middlesex to play as a second spinner alongside Monty Panesar or Robinson may opt for a four-pronged seam attack by recalling Naved Arif.

England wicketkeeper Matt Prior has recovered from a stomach bug which ruled him out of the win over Derbyshire on Sunday but Joe Gatting is out with a chest infection.
