Sussex's bowlers produced another superb fightback to gain the advantage on the opening day of the County Championship clash with Somerset at Hove.

Somerset got off to a strong start after being put in to bat by Mike Yardy before losing five wickets for 33 runs as they reached 199-7 when bad light stopped play.

Marcus Trescothick and Arul Suppiah put on 71 for the first wicket in quick time after a 30 minute delay due to overnight rain.

James Anyon finally made the breakthrough when he had Suppiah lbw but Nick Compton then added 46 for the second wicket as he and Trescothick began to dominate.

Trescothick had hit 54 of his 63 runs in boundaries, including a big six off Amjad Khan, before he gloved a catch to gully off Khan to spark a collapse.

Rana Naved then picked up the wickets of Compton and Peter Trego while Khan removed Jos Butler as Somerset went from 117-1 to 132-5.

Anyon picked up his second wicket when he bowled Luke Gregory with a yorker before Alex Barrow and Craig Meschede steadied the ship with a partnership of 47.

Rana claimed his third wicket when Meschede was caught at slip shortly before the umpires took the players off in the 51st over just before 5pm.
