Sussex won last night’s Twenty20 dress rehearsal after one of their own employees threatened to upstage them.
Matt Wood, who works in the club’s commercial department and plays for Brighton & Hove, took three wickets for the Sussex League XI including Sharks’ captain Mike Yardy, who was caught and bowled off a leading edge for 17.
Wood then removed Academy wicketkeeper Callum Jackson and Monty Panesar in his final over as the Sharks were restricted to 114-9.
League openers Mark Tomsett and Chris Mole (46) put on 64 in 6.5 overs but after Tomsett was leg before in Yardy’s first over the Sussex spinners imposed such a stranglehold that just 35 runs came off the next 11 overs. Chris Nash picked up three wickets, Yardy two and Panesar one as the League finished just short on 113-7.
