Eastbourne Borough boss Tommy Widdrington will take a head count before today's trip to Sutton United.

A sickness bug has affected the squad this week, ruling skipper Ian Simpemba out of Tuesday’s FA Cup replay win at Farnborough.

Other players appeared in the game despite feeling unwell, which makes their 2-0 success all the more impressive.

Widdrington said: “There were four or five of them who weren’t feeling great.

“I have nothing but praise for them. Sometimes when you have a home tie and you don’t get through, you expect the home side to have the advantage in the replay but we didn’t ever feel we were going there to make up the numbers.”

Simpemba remains a doubt for the Sutton game and Widdrington revealed he will see how a number of others are feeling before deciding on his team.

The Borough boss is operating with a small squad so the return of defender Adam Watts after missing three games through injury will be a welcome boost.

However, James Stinson has staked his claim to remain in the side after an impressive display as Simpemba’s midweek replacement.

Manny Akokhia has left the club to join Staines.
