Dan Smith makes his first start for seven games as a depleted Eastbourne Borough take on Welling United in the FA Trophy.

The winger looked to have played his last game for Borough when he was sent off in the FA Cup replay defeat to Tooting in October.

He was put on the transfer lost and then left out of the squad altogether after serving a three-game ban but boss Garry Wilson is so short of numbers he has little choice but to turn to the former Plymouth professional.

Smith is likely to play out of position on the left-wing with Jamie Taylor operating on the right as Borough stick with the 4-5-1 system that has proved effective in recent weeks.

Simon Johnson keeps his place after an impressive display against Cambridge last weekend and plays alongside Matt Crabb and Paul Armstrong in the middle with Dan Brown suspended and Simon Weatherstone injured.

There is also a surprise recall for Nathan Crabb on the bench just 24 hours after receiving the all clear from a heart scare which had ruled him out for ten weeks.

Matt Smart also takes his place on the bench for the first time in six games with Borough only just managing to name five substitutes following the departure of Joe Benjamin and Kayne McLaggon.

Welling, mid-table in Blue Square south, include former Borough striker Loui Fazakerley in their line-up.
