Lewes face an FA Trophy replay after failing to make their second-half pressure count away to Hampton and Richmond.
The hosts had slightly the better of a tight first half but the Rooks grew in statute after the break and went close on a number of occasions.
However, neither team could break the deadlock as it finished 0-0 and they will try again at the Dripping Pan on Wednesday.
Rikki Banks provided the highlight of the opening 45 minutes half with a super save to keep the scores level at the interval. Ian Hodges seemed certain to score when he connected with John Scarborough's centre in the 31st minute but Banks reacted superbly to push the shot away.
David Wheeler was Lewes' liveliest player in the opening period and he had their only real effort of note, cutting inside from the right and sending in a low left-footed shot which keeper Matt Lovett held.
Steven Brinkhurst was involved in two good moments for Lewes early in the second half, first bursting through the defence before seeing his shot saved at the near post.
Then on 53 minutes Brinkhurst met Wheeler's cross with a close-range header at the first half but Lovett produced a fabulous save which was ass good as the stop by Banks in the first half.
Banks made another good save on 58 minutes to thwart substitute Michael Charles but it was a rare moment for Hampton as Lewes took a grip on the game in the second half.
With 11 minutes remaining Fred Foreman played in substitute Louis Pople but Lovett stood firm to parry the initial shot and Pople steered his second effort into the side-netting from a tight angle.
With four minutes remaining Anthony Barness sent a rising shot just over the bar as Lewes pushed for a winner.
