Manager Garry Wilson was full of praise for his defence and goalkeeper after Eastbourne Borough kept their first clean sheet since September 5 to beat Welling United 1-0 at Park View Road.
Borough had not had a shut-out since beating Kidderminster 2-0 18 games ago but two fine saves from Danny Knowles plus some stubborn defending saw them hold on after Liam Enver-Marum had broken the deadlock in the 20th minute.
Wilson said: "It was good to come off the pitch with a clean sheet as well as a win.
"That was a big bonus as we have not been keeping clean sheets and we worked hard to achieve it.
"Welling gave it a real go today which you expect in a cup game so we had to hold firm and showed a lot of commitment.
"Danny was excellent today. He made some timely saves and is getting better all the time."
