Eastbourne Borough boss Garry Wilson admits he is desperate to sign a striker to ease the pressure on Liam Enver-Marum.

Enver-Marum has gone six games without a goal after finding the net four times in five matches at the end of last year to take his tally for the season to eight.

The former Woking striker is struggling with a knee injury but Wilson is unable to take him out of the firing line to rediscover his form and fitness as Borough approach a crucial period in the season.

The Priory Lane outfit have no game tomorrow but then face five tough-looking matches in the space of two weeks, starting with the visit of Wrexham next Saturday.

With Andy Atkin sidelined for at least a month following a groin operation on Wednesday the Borough boss is left with Jamie Taylor, Nathan Crabb or Joe Benjamin as alternatives in attack.

None are ideally suited to the 4-5-1 formation Borough have favoured recently which means a target man is top of Wilson’s wish list, although he insists any new arrival would be to help rather than replace Enver-Marum.

Wilson said: “With Andy out I would like to have a target man I could put in if Liam is not on his game and that is something we will be working on over the next week.

“Liam is a young, promising player. He has got his faults there is no doubt and will have his ups and downs when it comes to form.

“It was not his best performance on Tuesday (against Cambridge) but on Saturday (at Tamworth) he was a real handful. It is a hard job for him up front on his own and it is asking a lot to expect him to perform week in, week out.”
