Eastbourne Borough slipped to a ninth consecutive league defeat against Grimsby Town despite an improved performance at Priory Lane.

Borough got off to the worst possible start when Rob Duffy took advantage of some slack marking to give Grimsby the lead after just 26 seconds.

The visitors went close to adding to their lead in a rampant opening five minutes but Borough slowly got back into the game.

Steven Masterton hit the bar with a fierce 25 yard free kick while Damian Spencer saw his shot saved by Kenny Arthur and Gary Elphick headed over when well placed.

Borough's pressure told in the 30th minute when Elphick headed against a post from Masterton's corner and Taylor poked the loose ball over the line.

The impressive Dan Walker gave the home side the lead after 62 minutes when he cut inside from the left and drilled a low shot inside the far corner.

Rikki Banks made a superb save from Alan Connell to preserve the advantage but was then at fault for Grimsby's equaliser. He got nowhere near a long free kick from Rob Eagle and when the ball was put back into the box Connell was on hand to nod into the empty net.

Connell then rubbed salt into the wounds when he lobbed Banks for the winning goal with six minutes to go.
