Head coach Nick Greenwood insisted their were plenty of positives to take from Eastbourne Borough's performance despite eventually going down 3-2 at home to Grimsby Town.
Goals from Jamie Taylor and Dan Walker had put Borough 2-1 in front but Alan Connell struck twice in the last 15 minutes to condemn Borough to a ninth consecutive league defeat.
Greenwood said: "We were outstanding for long periods of the game and for 70 minutes it was as if we had got back to being the team we used to be.
"At 2-1 I thought we looked the more likely team to go on and get the third and that would have been the end of the game but in the last ten minutes or so the fitness levels of a full-time team kicked in.
"It is the best we have played for a long time and we can take some positives from that but at the end of the day it is another defeat no matter how you dress it up."
