Garry Wilson has told his players to stand up and be counted as Eastbourne Borough bid to exorcise the demons of Darlington.

Borough’s depressing season hit a new low at the Northern Echo Arena last weekend when they conceded four goals in the space of nine minutes en route to a 6-1 hammering.

It was their 11th league defeat in a row and left them rooted to the foot of the Blue Square Bet premier table ahead of tomorrow’s vital clash with fellow strugglers Histon.

Wilson denies Borough’s hopes of survival rest on a positive result against the Stutes but has demanded a response from his players for their shocking first half display at Darlington.

The Borough boss said: “When the goals were flying in it was one of the worst feelings you can experience as a football manager.

“The truth is there is not a lot you can do from the sidelines in those situations. It was horrible watching goals going in at that rate and being in a big stadium made it even harsher to take.

“All I could do was get them in at half-time and do my job to try to put things right. You try to give some guidance from the touchline but what you really need is your experienced players to come to the forefront and sort things out on the pitch. That didn’t happen last weekend and is something that must change.”
