Crawley's hopes of an FA Trophy run were in the balance as they found themselves trailing against Blue Square south promotion chasers Chelmsford at Melbourne Park tonight.
The deadlock in a scrappy first half was broken on 42 minutes when Anthony Cook beat Simon Rayner from close range after Rob Edmans had set up the chance with a low cross from the left.
Cook and Edmans had both gone close earlier in the half with Reds offering little in response apart from a 20 yard drive by midfielder Barry Cogan which fizzed just past the right-hand post in the 16th minute.
