Whitehawk boss Darren Freeman has strengthened his squad with two new signings.

Former Northampton striker Lewis Wilson and ex-Albion midfielder Charlie Oatway Jnr have both linked up with the Conference south side.

Freeman has also brought in former England under-20 goalkeeper Jamie Young to cover for the suspended Chris Winterton away to Farnborough.

The Hawks boss was anxious to strengthen his squad following last week’s FA Cup exit to Sutton when he was only able to name four substitutes.

Wilson, 20, began his career with Rushden and Diamonds and was snapped up by Northampton in January 2012 after a productive spell in non-league football with Newport Pagnell.

He made his debut as a substitute when replacing current Hawks player Jake Robinson on April 17, 2012, and netted on his full debut against Gillingham a week later.

However, Wilson failed to find the net in eight games for Northampton last season and was released at the end of the campaign after a successful loan spell at Kettering where he scored seven in eight matches.

He began the current campaign playing for troubled Kettering in the Southern League and has been a regular scorer for the Poppies.

Freeman said: “I spoke to Aidy Boothroyd (Northampton manager) who said he was unlucky not to get a new deal in the summer.

“He is trying to get back into full-time football and he has joined us on non-contract terms.”

Oatway was released by Albion last season after one year as a professional at The Amex.

He joined the Seagulls after scoring a hatful of goals for County League side East Preston but was also dual-signed with Whitehawk during that period.

Freeman said: “Charlie is looking to go to America on a scholarship but he is a quality player and I’m delighted to have him with us.”

Goalkeeper Young, 28, played 123 Football League games for Aldershot Town after joining them from Wycombe in March 2010.

He was released at the end of last season and has been training with his first club, Reading, while trying to find a new team.
