Mark Knee is enjoying life at Worthing under Adam Hinshelwood.

But the experienced defender has asked fans to give the new-look team at Woodside Road time to bed in.

New boss Hinshelwood introduced eight new signings for his third game in charge away to Eastbourne Town last Saturday.

Most of them were youngsters plucked from the County League or the fringes of other teams.

The only senior players in the team were Worthing stalwart Knee and Lee Carey, the former Hastings captain signed from Redhill.

Knee has seen it all since making his Isthmian League debut for Lewes in January 1996 and has played under numerous managers during his career which has also taken in successful spells at Horsham and Whitehawk.

But he likes the approach of former Albion defender Hinshelwood, who was appointed on Christmas Day, and is happy to lend a hand in helping the young players at the club carve a career for themselves.

Knee said: “That is his game plan to get the youngsters in, get some more energy about us and build from there.

“The training is really good, they set out the training sessions really well and the sessions are based around how we want to play.

“He wants us to get the passing game going, try to play out from the back if we can but at this time of year with some of the pitches it’s hard to do that.

“I’m enjoying it since he took over and hopefully we will start seeing some more positives results.”

Knee lined up in a defence away to Eastbourne Town which featured three young debutants in the shape of right-back Will Hendon, who has been signed on a loan-type arrangement from Lewes, plus centre-backs Corey Heath and Connor Cody, who have arrived from Selsey but were dual-signed at Bognor.

All three impressed with the football they tried to play and two of them – Heath and Hendon – played a part in the second goal in a 2-2 draw.
