Burgess Hill put up a tremendous display before conceding in the final minute to lose 2-1 at home to Conference premier side Dartford in the second round of the FA Trophy.

A crowd of 1,010 watched the Hillians match a team three divisions higher for much of the contest.

Ian Chapman’s side bossed the first half, with Pat Harding grabbing a deserved equaliser shortly before the break.

They had to defend more in the second half but threatened a winner themselves before substitute Danny Harris netted in the 90th minute for Dartford.

The Hillians fell behind from the penalty spot after just five minutes when Sam Fisk brought down Tom Bradbrook with a clumsy challenge and Harry Crawford tucked away the spot-kick.

But the home team were the better side for the rest of the half and deservedly drew level six minutes before the break when Dan Pearse’s shot from the edge of the box was too hot for keeper Deren Ibrahim to hold and Harding was first to react to tuck away the rebound.

Burgess Hill had to do their fare share of defending in the second half and the excellent Will Miles made a tremendous double block on 57 minutes to keep the scores level.

With four minutes remaining a fierce shot from Joe Keehan was pushed away for a corner by Ibrahim.

Then as the clocked reached 90 minutes Bradbrook set up Harris to drill low past Josh James.
