Whitehawk's play-off hopes suffered a setback as they lost 1-0 at home to rivals Basingstoke today.
Visiting striker Liam Enver-Marum got the only goal on 16 minutes but defeat was harsh on Hawks, who improved after a poor first half-hour.
Enver-Marum stooped at the far post to head home unchallenged after a corner was allowed to bounce in the goalmouth.
Home keeper Craig Ross made good saves either side of the goal.
But he was bettered by Stuart Moore's astonishing claw away of a John-Paul Kissock shot at the other end after fine work by Jake Robinson.
Hawks attacked down the slope for much of the second half but were unable to find a final touch.
And their frustration was summed up in the first minute of added time when a volley by the impressive Scott Neilson bounced up and over Moore but came back off the crossbar.
