Whitehawk's reserve side did manager Ian Chapman proud as they lost on penalties to Ringmer in a John O'Hara League Cup replay at the Caburn.

Hawks fielded a second string side as they did not want to risk players for Saturday's crucial FA Vase last 16 game at home to Quorn.

Ringmer had Herve King sent off for foul and abusive language in the first half but led through Miles Scerri's 67th-minute goal only for Paul Dudson to level late on.

Glen Matten hit the winning penalty as Ringmer triumphed 3-1 on spot kicks. Home boss Steve Johnson said: "Whitehawk played really well and deserved something out of the game. They didn't look like a reserve team, which is a credit to them."

In division one, brothers Matt and Mike Huckett each hit hat-tricks as Arundel beat Worthing United 7-2.
