Allan Tait's 25-yard special earned Eastbourne Borough a point against table toppers Histon at Priory Lane.

Borough started with real intent and showed they are a team in form.

Skipper Paul Armstrong fired just wide on seven minutes and Duncan McArthur's dipping volley was well gathered by Lance Key in the Histon goal.

Tait, fresh from a hat-trick against Yeading, then blasted Borough into a 16th-minute lead with a long range screamer. The in-form striker almost made it 2-0 moments later but pulled his shot just wide.

Borough created further chances but Histon levelled against the run of play. Lee Hook's weak punch from a long throw-in fell to the edge of the area where John Kennedy's inch perfect lob found the back of the net.

Histon continued to pose a threat from set-pieces. The second half was slightly more subdued but Hook produced a fantastic point-blank save from Kennedy on 68 minutes.

Tait had a chance to steal the points in the dying moments but his finish was well over.

Bognor left it late as they drew 1-1 with Newport County but it was no more than they deserved after dominating for long periods during the game.

The Rocks' best effort of the first half came when Luke Nightingale switched the ball out wide to Darren Budd whose deep cross was headed over the top by an unchallenged Ben Watson.

Ten seconds into the second half Watson's cross from the byline was met by Nightingale whose header was blocked on the line by Damen Searle.

The visitors took the lead in the 71st minute when Charlie Griffin fired home at the far post.

But Bognor equalised a minute from time when Budd's free-kick on the right wing was thundered home at the far post by man-of-the-match Stuart Tuck.
