Worthing Thunder reached their fourth successive domestic final after a dramatic 108-84 win over London Capitals.

Roared on by a noisy crowd at Worthing Leisure Centre Thunder, EBL division one champions, clinched a place in the play-off final against Manchester in Newcastle on Sunday.

Needing to win by ten or more points following a first leg defeat, Thunder allowed their opponents to get off to the faster start, visiting captain Marlo Saunders hitting two early triples as Capitals led the game for the first five minutes.

However, with overseas stars Alfredo Ott, Marcus Avant and Janis Ivanovskis to the fore Thunder settled into the stride they were not allowed to the previous week, going on a 14-2 run to lead 24-14 late in the first quarter, a one-point lead overall.

By the halfway stage they were 14 points up but there was still all to play for.

Capitals rallied after the break, going on a 9-2 run to regain the overall lead and by the end of the third quarter they were three up with Thunder leading 70-64 on the night.

The turning point was a four-point play by Avent and when Ott scored a sweet reverse lay-up after rebounding his own shot you could sense that this was to be Thunder's night.

Assistant coach Alan Sweetman-Hicks said: "The players knew they had let themselves and the travelling supporters down last weekend and were determined to make amends.

"We tightened up defensively while ensuring that offensively we played the smooth up-tempo game that got us to this stage."

Thunder scorers: Ott 31, Avant 28, Ivanovskis 27, Bates 8, Hildreth 7, Brame 5, Burns 1, Midgley 1.
