Former Albion assistant Bob Booker has revealed his interest in becoming Crawley manager.

Booker is one of five candidates believed to be in the frame for the vacant hot-seat at Broadfield Stadium.

The others are thought to include former Tottenham defender and Farnborough boss Dean Austin, ex-Gillingham player-manager Andy Hessenthaler, one-time Stevenage chief Graham Westley and Alan Reeves, who was recently assistant at Brentford.

Reds owner Azwar Majeed is expected to announce an appointment by the end of the week after advertising the position a fortnight ago following the sacking of caretaker boss John Yems.

Booker has been helping out at County League side Pease Pottage since being axed by Albion last September.

He said: "It is something I would be interested in and if my name is mentioned then I am flattered. I'm out of work at the moment so if there is interest I'm not going to turn it down.

"It is a good standard and they are looking to get into the Football League. I don't know the ins and outs of it but there is a nice set-up there."

Booker was assistant to Micky Adams, Peter Taylor, Steve Coppell, and Mark McGhee and had two spells as caretaker manager during his six years with the Seagulls.

The former Sheffield United midfielder helped Pottage gain promotion from division three and claim a hat-trick of cups this season.

He said: "I want to get back into football and the longer it goes on the more you miss it. If the right job came along I would go for it, it has nothing to do with location.

"If an interview came up in Darlington then I would go there, in football you have to move where the job is."

Crawley are set to decide the futures of their out-of-contract players this week.

Ben Judge and Dave Woozley became the first players to agree new deals last week, while Dannie Bulman and Tony Scully opted to take up an option to stay on their current deals.

Midfielder Steve Evans also has a pre-contract agreement to remain for next season.

The rest of the squad are free agents and a number are believed to be talking to other clubs.

Top scorer Scott Rendell is a target for Cambridge United, who have recently appointed former Reds assistant Alan Lewer as their No. 2.

Defender Magnus Okuonghae is thought to be close to a move to Conference champions Dagenham and Redbridge.
