Eastbourne’s Johanna Konta is through to the last eight of the Australian Open after a thrilling three-set victory today.
The 24-year-old came from a set down to beat last year’s semi-finalist Ekatarina Makarova 4-6 6-4 8-6 in a three-hour epic.
She is the first British woman to reach a Grand Slam quarter-final for 32 years.
Konta said: "It was mentally, emotionally, physically (draining). I just tried to hang in there, run after every single ball and keep fighting for every single point."
The British No.1 will now face either Madison Keys, the American 15th seed, or Chinese qualifier Shuai Zhang for a place in the semi-finals.
