East Grinstead men notched another landmark in hockey’s history books after claiming an eighth successive national indoor title.

And on a memorable day for the club at the Super 6s Championship finals night at Wembley East Grinstead women claimed their first ever national indoor crown.

For the men, this was arguably their sweetest success indoors for years with a new-look squad following the departure of several key players from recent campaigns.

They extended the record of seven on the trot which they set last year with an emphatic 5-1 victory over Canterbury at Wembley thanks to goals from David Condon (two), captain Simon Faulkner, Ross Stott and Josh Coniglio.

That followed a 6-3 semi-final victory over Sevenoaks in front of a noisy Wembley crowd when the goals came from Condon (two), Rob Schilling, Ben Allberry, Stott and Faulkner.

This was only the women’s second ever appearance at finals night, having lost in the final to Bowdon last year.

They avenged that defeat with a 1-0 win over Bowdon in today’s semi-final thanks to a goal from Malou Pheninckx.

Then in the final Grinstead overcame Canterbury 3-1 with goals from Pheninckx (two) and Takara Haines.

Both Grinstead men and women will now go in to represent England in Europe in 2017.
