Chris Eubank Jnr's British title fight victim Nick Blackwell is in an induced coma in hospital with a bleed to the brain.

But surgeons are not planning to operate.

A scan today revealed no increase in the pressure on his brain.

Blackwell was taken from the ring on a stretcher after losing his middleweight belt to rising Brighton star Eubank in London last night.

British Boxing Board of Control general secretary Robert Smith told the BBC: "It is our understanding that Nick has a bleed on the brain and is under observation by hospital staff.

"We will just have to wait and see what the hospital says."

Michael Watson was brain damaged after a world title fight with Eubank's father at White Hart Lane in September 1991.

Eubank senior was in his son's corner last night and told him between rounds he could not understand why the referee had not stopped the fight.

It was eventually stopped in the tenth round on doctor's advice, due to a large swelling above Blackwell's left eye.

Eubank Jr said: "I hit him with some big shots, maybe the referee should have stopped the fight earlier."

Blackwell received medical attention in the ring before being taken away while receiving oxygen.

Eubank Jnr tweeted to Blackwell last night: "You put up a great fight tonight. Proved yourself a true warrior, wish you a quick recovery & a speedy return 2 the ring."
