Joint-boss Nigel Dyer insists flu-struck Storrington had no choice but to postpone their County League division two clash against Westfield.

The Swans notified the league they could not fulfil the home fixture after a epidemic left eight first team players as well as Dyer and fellow joint-manager Eamonn Searle in their sick-beds.

Dyer said: "People look into it more than they should and have suggested that we called it off for other reasons but that was not the case.

"We had a really bad flu epidemic with eight first teamers and a lot of reserves suffering with it. We wouldn't have had a manager there either because myself and Eamonn had it and (fellow joint-boss) Jon Chalaye was away.

"The last thing we wanted was to call the game off. We have only had one home league match this season and we need the finances badly."

Leaders East Grinstead swept aside Southwick 3-0 to maintain their formidable start to the campaign.

The Wasps are one of only two clubs in senior English football to have a 100 per cent record, the other being Northern Counties east premier division side Glapwell, who have won all nine of their games so far.

Grinstead had to wait until the second half to break the Wickers' resistance through Tom Saunders, who netted again late on before Dan Sullivan added the third.

Rustington have still to concede a goal at home in the league this season after beating Sidlesham 3-0 to stay second. James Butt, Lee Gibbs and Ryan Morten were on target.

Scott Farrell netted his first of the season to give Littlehampton a 1-0 victory over promotion rivals Lingfield. The Marigolds finished the game with ten men after Stu Bennett was stretchered off with an ankle injury and all the substitutes had already been used.

Liam Bull helped himself to four goals as Wealden ran riot in a 7-0 drubbing of rock-bottom Pease Pottage. Paul Eaton scored a brace and Darren Gearing completed the rout.

Two goals in three second half minutes from Gary Norgate rounded off a comfortable 4-1 win for Midhurst against Seaford. Steve Turner and Tony Stephens also notched, while Adam Kneller got the consolation.

Peacehaven continued their revival with a 3-1 home triumph over Steyning. Maz Williams, Tom Levitt and Mark Howard extended Tye's winning run to four games and Chris Duffett got on the scoresheet for the visitors.

James Upton netted a 75th minute winner as Crawley Down saw off Lancing 2-1. Scott Hunt levelled for the Lancers minutes after Gareth Neathey gave Down an early lead.

Two goals from Titus Patterson and a Chris Paine strike gave Mile Oak a 3-1 win over Broadbridge Heath, who had Chris Hughes on target.
