Bishop's Stortford 2, Eastbourne B 1.

Eastbourne Borough failed to take advantage of Lewes's slip-up when they suffered their first away defeat of the season.

Borough were ahead after just three minutes. Jay Lovett crossed from the right, Andy Atkins' header was parried by keeper Andy Young and Nathan Crabb provided the finishing touch.

The visitors threatened again minutes later, but after a neat one-two with Nathan Crabb, Paul Armstrong was off target from the edge of the area.

Garry Wilson's men completely dominated the opening exchanges and there were screams for a penalty when Atkin went down in the area following a heavy challenge from Tom Champion, but referee Eamonn Smith would have none of it.

There was almost a second Eastbourne goal when Nathan Crabb forced keeper Young into a hurried clearance straight to Pat Harding whose chip just dropped over the bar with the keeper out of his goal.

In the 33rd minute Stortford drew level. Darren Baker was penalised for a foul on Danny Harris and Ahmed Deen superbly curled the free-kick into the top corner of the net from 20 yards.

The goal lifted the home side and only an excellent late challenge from Neil Jenkins prevent Louis Fazakerley from scoring against his old club.

Both sides went close to taking the lead in the opening minutes of the second half. Fazakerley was inches away from converting Greg Pearson's cross and at the other end Young did superbly to save Darren Budd's volley.

Minutes later Young was in action again when he dived to save a fierce Matt Crabb drive.

Matt Crabb again went close when his free kick shaved the bar after Armstrong had been fouled.

But it was Borough who went behind in the 73rd minute. Deen's corner from the right was played back into a crowded goal mouth by Fazakerley and Harris stabbed the ball home from close range.
