Ross Minter failed in his bid to become WBU world welterweight champion last night.

The Crawley fighter was stopped by defending champion .Michael Jennings at the Excel Arena in London in the ninth round.

Minter was unable to emulate his father Alan by becoming a world champion.

Brave Minter, who ended the night with a gashed ear, cut head and bloodied nose, gave Jennings one of the toughest fights of his career before referee Micky Vann stepped in after 2mins 59sec of the ninth round to bring a halt.

Minter said he lost focus just before the big fight.

He had timed his preparations for the 9.40pm slot on the ITV show but a succession of fights finishing early on the undercard threw the timetable out.

He said:: "I was sitting in the dressing room when I was told I could be on at 9pm when I was preparing for 9.30pm and it went wrong from there.

"I was getting bandaged up and chilling out when they came in and said you're on in ten because the other fight has been stopped."
