Horsham boss John Maggs has pleaded with the fans to turn up in numbers as his side kick off their Ryman premier ‘home’ programme tomorrow night.

Hornets face promotion favourites Staines at Woodside Road, Worthing.

The club have temporarily moved out of the town to groundshare with Rebels after selling Queen Street.

Maggs said: “The big question is how many supporters will be there? We know one coachload is coming from Horsham. Hopefully we can pick up fans associated with Worthing. We would need gates averaging 300 to tick over.

“It’s not unreasonable. Afterall we averaged twice that at Queen Street.

“Perhaps people will be encouraged to come along after our opening day win at Canvey Island.”

Maggs feels Horsham’s first competitive match at the ground – they played a friendly against Eastbourne Borough in pre-season – will provide a benchmark. He said: “Staines are highly-rated.”

He believes the surface will suit his new-look side. Maggs said: “It is brilliant, just right for playing good football on. Worthing have done a superb job.”

Former Worthing playu rMark Knee, who missed the 4-2 win at Canvey Island due to business commitments, is poised for his debut.

He joins the seven who made their first league appearance for the club in Essex. Lee Carney (knee) should be fit.
