County League division three round-up: Dan Smith scored twice on his debut as Rottingdean Village made the best possible start.
The former Burgess Hill under-18s player helped his new side to a 4-1 win away to Broadbridge Heath, who were relegated from division two last season.
Rottingdean survived a rocky start when the hosts had three chances in the opening 15 minutes and raced into a 2-0 lead by half-time thanks to Smith’s header and a goal from Jamie Watts who was set up by Ross Smith.
Dan Smith and Ryan Kendall added to the tally after the break before Warren Sweatman grabbed a consolation for Heath.
Rottingdean boss Calvin Sweetman said: “We thought they would be a tough outfit to play having just come down but we grew in confidence and played some good football.
“We have a lot of young players this season. Everyone wants promotion, we are just looking to build.
“We had three players missing on Saturday so it was a good start.”
There were two goals for another debutant as Ross Porter scored twice as Uckfield Town won 4-1 away to Pease Pottage. Gary Rook and former Worthing player Wes Lopez also netted while Andy Clowe got the lone reply.
Leroy Hyett scored a hat-trick for Dorking Wanderers as they beat Hurstpierpoint 6-3, having led 5-1 at half-time. Lee Smith chipped in with a brace after Shane Jones kicked things off in the 16th minute, while replies came from Dean Melling, Stuart Tandy and Stuart Kempton.
Jake Holmes scored twice as Forest beat Saltdean 2-0.
Newhaven fought back from two-down to draw 2-2 with Little Common last night.
