Former Wasps and England prop Will Green will lead Worthing Raiders into their second season of National League rugby as head coach.

Green is taking over as director of rugby Ian Davies moves on.

Davies is due to accept a position at an as yet unspecified higher-division club and will take charge of his final Raiders match at Bridgwater this Saturday.

The trip west will also mark Jody Levett's farewell as the captain confirms his retirement.

Raiders are definitely safe for next season after winning 43-20 at home to Lydney on Saturday.

Davies, who suffered National Three South relegation with Haywards Heath but then guided Worthing out of London One via a promotion play-off, is delighted to be leaving on a high note.

He said: "There were celebrations and relief at the end. We had spoken before the game about how much it meant to the club to stay in this league and how much effort had been put in over the years to get here.

"Will is now taking over and it will be good experience for him, something he will thrive on."

Heath went down in their second National Three season after surviving comfortably first time around.

It has been a tougher debut year for Raiders but Davies is confident they can survive their second season.

He said: "The difference is Heath lost a lot of experienced players from the team that had taken them up.

"Worthing are quite a young team. They had a really tough season and now know what to expect.

"The club is in a difficult geographical position. Heath have an advantage over them there but maybe the strong contacts myself and Will have helped Worthing.

"Financially there is nothing in it. Neither club are big hitters."

Raiders suspected one point would be enough to secure safety but they did it in style.

There were a few nerves when Lydney got back to 22-20 but Joe Govett scored the killer try after good work by Ben Coulson.

Govett (two), Jamie Redmayne, Ben Dudley, Matt McLean and Callum Wilson touched down for Worthing with McLean adding five conversions and a penalty.
