Simon Colbran is bolstering his table-topping Worthing squad with two new signings.

Former Tottenham and Albion midfielder John Piercy has agreed to join the club along with striker Evan Archibald, who was released by Lewes last week.

Colbran has also made a seven-day approach for another player as he looks to strengthen his squad in a concerted push for promotion.

Piercy has been out of football since leaving Eastbourne Town last season.

Rebels boss Colbran said: “They are two quality additions. We need a bit of experience in the side and John is a quality player who will give us that. He has lost a stone in weight and got himself fit so we are looking forward to having him. Evan will score us goals.”

Worthing lacked those on Saturday but were happy with a 0-0 draw in their top-of-the-table clash away to second-placed Folkestone Invicta.

The had the better chances with Ben Williamson, Ross Treleaven and Ben Johnson going close in the first half then Treleaven, Gavin Gordon and Glen Woodburn testing the hosts after the interval.

Horsham YMCA kept their first clean sheet of the season in the league as they secured as crucial 1-0 win over lowly Whitstable.

YM had to defend resolutely in the last 20 minutes after Tony Timms was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Boss Chris White said: “It was a big win for us. If we take our chances and stop conceding silly goals we can definitely be competitive in this league.

“We would have liked a second goal to calm the nerves and they threw everything at us in the last 20 minutes but it was a deserved win.”

The winner came when Tom Manton’s free-kick found Tom Lawley and he cut inside two defenders before firing home.

Burgess Hill boss Gary Croydon had mixed feelings after his side were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Ashford Town.

He said: “It was an excellent game for the neutral because we are good to watch at the moment. We are playing some good football but we had enough opportunities to have won the game, especially in the second half.”

Hillians went ahead when Lloyd Skinner’s excellent cross set up an easy header for Danny Curd but the Nuts and Bolts got into the contest before half-time and then rocked their hosts with two goals in 15 minutes after the break.

Skinner finished off a six-man move to fire the equaliser.
