Sussex trainers William Knight and John Dunlop aim to have a crack at Guineas glory.

With the flat season starting this weekend, Angmering saddler Knight has earmarked three-year-old Eolith for the 1,000 Guineas.

And experienced Arundel handler Dunlop has entries for the fillies Classic and the 2,000 Guineas.

Knight said: “Eolith is a nice looking filly with the potential to run the 1,000 Guineas. She’s a lovely mover and seems to have a bit of class about her. She‘ll have to win her handicap first – we’ll probably run her at Kempton next month – but she’s training well and definitely one to keep an eye on.”

The filly is the star out of 50 horses stabled at Knight’s Lower Coombe Stables.

He said: “Eolith is one from the best batch of three-year-olds I’ve ever had.

“I’ve also got some nice four-year-olds like Illustrious Blue, King of Dixie, Uvinza and Titan Triumph to go to war with.

“We’re in good order. We’re stepping it up with the older horses and hopefully will have runners in the first part of April.

“The horses have wintered well and look healthy and refreshed.

“Hopefully we can hit the turf season running.

“We’ve had a good spell on the all-weather for the past couple of months and aim to continue it.

“We will try to use Jim Crowley and Shane Kelly as our main jockeys.”

Knight’s four-year-old, Dalradian was originally aimed at Saturday’s Lincoln at Doncaster, a meeting which marks the start of the flat season on turf, but missed the recent trial at Wolverhampton.

The horse was eighth in the Winter Derby at Lingfield last week with Pulborough pilot Crowley in the saddle.

Knight said: “The horse ran okay but probably not good enough.

Another Knight four-year-old, December Draw, is entered on the all-weather at Kempton on Saturday.

Classic-winning trainer Dunlop has entered Murfarrh, Elusive Pimpernel and Naasef for the 2,000 Guineas, the first of the five English Classics, at Newmarket on May 1.

He also includes Mudaaraah for the 1,000 Guineas on the following day at the same meeting.

Dunlop’s racing manager Marcus Hosgood said: “We’ve had a harsh winter but our horses have done lots of work and are pretty forward.

“We’d like to think there’s a few things to look forward to but we’ll have to wait and see, We don’t expect to have a runner until mid-April.”

Horsham trainer Gary Moore expects his three Lincoln entries – Kavachi, South Cape and Noble Jack – to be balloted out so has also found a reserve race for them at Doncaster on the same day, the Spring Mile.

He said: “We’ve got a few decent horses for the flat. I particularly like the look of Whistledownthewind – who has been a winner – and King’s Warrior.”

Moore has enjoyed a hat-trick of victories. Fergus Sweeney rode his Castleburg to victory on the all-weather at Lingfield on Friday.

He completed the treble over the jumps with son Jamie, back from injury, on board Perfect Reward at Fontwell on Sunday and stable assistant Philip Hide rode home Maximix at Plumpton on Monday.
