Sascha Kindred picked up his 12th Paralympic medal but had to be content with silver in the 200m individual medley.
The reigning champion relinquished his crown and his world record to China’s Xu Qing.
However, second place made up for the bitter disappointment of finishing fourth in the SB7 100m breaststroke final on Saturday.
Kindred, who previously lived in Crawley and still returns regularly to the town, qualified quickest in two minutes 44.29 secs but China’s Xu proved too tough in the final.
He said: “I have to be happy with the silver as I have done the best that I can on the day.”
