Three worthy Sussex based community groups have been given a share of £10,000 thanks to your votes. More than 100 organisations were nominated and over 30,000 votes have been cast by readers of The Argus.
The Bevern Trust will be given the lion share with a £5,000 award after they received 4,747 votes. The charity, based in Barcombe, provides purpose built accommodation for young adults with severe learning difficulties. The trust enables its residents to live their lives to the full by providing a full range of activities such as art, music and physical therapies as well as giving full time carers a much needed respite.
Davison Worthing Youth Concert will receive the second prize of £3,000 to buy new instruments and sheet music for its 73 members. The band is totally self supporting and provides local people with the chance to get involved in music as well as providing the community with concerts throughout the year.
Finally Brighton & Hove Neighbourhood Care Scheme will receive £2,000 to help local volunteers support elderly people in their homes. Many with physical disabilities and suffering social exclusion, the Scheme operates in nine neighbourhoods of the city and helps around 100,000 people.
The awards were provided by The Argus and Barclays Money Skills.
The following organisations also received more than 1000 votes each Roger’s Wildlife Rescue, Monkey Puzzle Pre-School; Friends of Downs View School; The Martlets Hospice; The Sussex Cancer Fund; and Hangleton Junior School.
