The debate about recognising Hove with signage at appropriate entry points misses one important point (Letters, February 12). Many residents and traders in Brunswick and Adelaide ward – the frontline of the Hove vs Brighton debate – would like to see Brunswick Town’s identity highlighted too. Brunswick Town has a unique and vibrant mix of mostly independent shops and businesses which would benefit no end from a clear visual identity for the area. Perhaps it is time for Brighton and Hove City Council to invest more in developing the identity of its various quarters?

The area’s local independent traders can then use this as a way to promote and market their businesses and attract visitors to the area. Brunswick Town can happily be part of Hove or the wide city, but the identity of our unique and historic area must not be lost.

Steve Dawson’s letter about giving Hove its identity back is something I am sure the majority of Hove residents would support. I read his letter only after a nudge from Valerie Paynter – Hove’s tigress for everything happening in the area.

If there is a way a Hove town council could be created by securing 10% of residents’ support for the plan, let’s go for it. There are now three supporting this idea and I am sure the bandwagon could easily roll on.
