As anyone who has ever been to Thailand will know, some of the chaps can look, well a little feminine.

For those who have not been, welcome to the glamorous world of the ladyboys of Bangkok.

Beginning a three-week stint in Brighton tonight, these men, many of whom have had surgery and hormone replacements to look mind-bogglingly like women, are set to wow the city once again.

The city has grown to love the ladyboys over the year, as the shows organisers explain. And while places like Bristol and Newcastle still get to grips with the concept, audiences here lap it up.

Tony Millar, the spokesman for the show, said: "I think it's because Brighton is a bit more open minded.

"We go to some places and they are still getting used to the idea and a bit unsure but Brighton is raring to go and loves the idea."

The show is a simple cabaret, with singing and dancing to a host of classic and modern pop songs.

Members of the 16-strong troupe will strut their stuff to tunes from hit productions such as Cabaret and The Rocky Horror Show.

The theme which runs throughout is Viva Las Vegas and the outrageousness of it all certainly shows.

For the duration the stars prance about on stage, wiggling their bits in a grand array of spectacular costumes.

And it would seem the performers love it as much as the audience. Mr Millar said: "They just love it. They've spent all this cash on their image and bodies and they love showing them off. Why not?

"There are three genders in Thailand, male, female and ladyboy. So for them it is very normal. Britain is still catching on to the idea a bit but places like Brighton are getting there."

Half of the big top, sited at the south end of Victoria Gardens, is dedicated to the ladyboys show, with a huge stage and seating area.

But the other half is given over to the costume and all important makeup area. It is a veritable Tardis of feather bowers, spangly outfits and exotic looking headgear.

The ladyboys practice their routines here also and prior to a dress rehearsal last night, when The Argus got a sneak preview, it was a hive of activity.

There's also the chance to sample some authentic Thai cuisine during the show courtesy of master chef Thanpwat Phamee.

Tickets are available from Monday to Saturday at 7pm & 9.15pm. Sun, 5pm and 7.30pm.
