The CCTV shows staff and diners filming the protesters back, with members

of the campaign group holding up signs to hide their faces.

At one point, a customer knocks a sign out of a protester’s hand before taking a picture.

Activists grapple with staff after a megaphone is grabbed from a protester.

More people, including customers, got involved in the fracas which lasted for a few minutes.

Afterwards, the diners continued their meal and one holds her hands up in despair.

The restaurant said one of the managers was vegan himself.

The restaurant owner said: “I told them to stop filming the customers as everyone was getting upset.

“I told them you are not allowed here, this is a private business, if you want to protest, go out into the

street.

“We are a family business, we don’t want to get involved in this.

“People should be free to choose whatever they want to eat and should not have to deal with violence.”

Police said: “Incidents involving animal rights activists at several restaurants in Brighton on Sunday evening in which protesters with loud hailers chanted slogans at diners, have been reported to police.”

There have been no arrests. Currently no arrests have been made but if criminal acts are

found to have taken place, appropriate action will be taken.”
