The message board you have set up on The Argus website for troops fighting abroad made me think how times have changed in warfare as well as communications.

My grandfather served in the Army and we have a collection of letters which he wrote to my grandmother while fighting in the trenches of the Western Front, where he lost part of his left leg.

In those days, letters were the only way of communication and their importance to loved ones at home cannot be underestimated. The world has got smaller with the advent of email but there can be no doubt that under enemy fire our soldiers are still absolutely and completely alone.

They deserve our support, admiration and respect.

Well done The Argus for saluting them in this way.
