THERE have been 703 new coronavirus cases recorded in Sussex over the weekend.
The positive tests were reported in the county between 9am on Friday and 9am yesterday.
More than half of the new confirmed cases were recorded in West Sussex where the total climbed to 7,882 since the start of the pandemic... a rise of 390 in 24 hours.
The second most significant two-day increase was seen in East Sussex, where the overall figure rose by 197. There have now been 4,256 cases recorded in the region.
And, in Brighton, there were 116 new cases taking the total figure in the city to 3,420.
Nationally, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases rose by 51,822 in the 48 hours leading up to 9am yesterday.
Of these, 24,962 were reported in the 24 hours leading up to 9am yesterday and 26,860 were recorded in the 24 hours leading up to 9am on Saturday. There have now been 1,369,318 positive tests reported in the UK. The number of deaths of people within 29 days of a positive coronavirus test in the UK increased by 630 in the 48 hours leading up to 5pm on Saturday. Of these, 462 were reported in the first 24 hours and the remaining 168 deaths were reported in the second half of this period.
