PEOPLE are being warned there could be disruption to rubbish collections in Brighton and Hove after several Cityclean workers contracted Covid-19.

The city council said there had been a "rise" in the number of staff who had tested positive for the virus.

The authority also said a number of workers had been told to self-isolate as a result of coming into contact with coronavirus.

A council spokesman said: "We're seeing a rise in Cityclean staff being infected with Covid or having to self-isolate.

"This could affect collections.

"We know how frustrating this would be, but please be patient and support our staff who've worked tirelessly through Covid."

Current government guidance states: "If you develop symptoms of Covid-19, stay at home and self-isolate immediately.

"If you have a positive test result but do not have symptoms, stay at home and self-isolate as soon as you receive the results. Your household needs to isolate too."

The NHS lists the main symptoms of Covid-19 as:

  • a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal

"Most people with coronavirus have at least one of these symptoms," an NHS spokesman said.
