A SUSSEX town recorded freezing temperatures on six consecutive days last week – for the first time since 1991.

Last week saw bitter temperatures dropping to -7°C in some areas of the county as Storm Darcy ripped through the country.

For the first time in 30 years, Hastings experienced six consecutive days where the air temperature at 9 am was freezing or below.

Stunning pictures snapped last week from high above Worthing showed hundreds of rooftops covered in snow.

The pebbled beach was sprinkled with a dusting of snow as people walked along the icy seafront footpath.

The forecast for the rest of the month could not look more different from last week.

As the temperature rises steadily through the week, we can expect to see highs of 11-12°C this weekend.

Historically the average maximum temperature for February in Shoreham, the closest Met Office station to Brighton, is 7.8°C.

The average minimum is around 1.9 °C with eight days of frost and 9.9 days of rainfall.
