Guitarist David Gilmour has had his say on the possibility of a Pink Floyd reunion, and it is not the news many fans will have been hoping for.

He confirmed the band had "run its course" in an interview with Guitar Player magazine this week.

The Hove musician told the publication: "I’m done with it. I’ve had a life in Pink Floyd for quite a lot of years, and quite a few of those years at the beginning, with Roger.

"And those years in what is now considered to be our heyday were 95 percent musically fulfilling and joyous and full of fun and laughter.

"And I certainly don’t want to let the other five per cent colour my view of what was a long and fantastic time together.

"But it has run its course, we are done, and it would be fakery to go back and do it again."

He went on to say it would be "wrong" to get the band back together without keyboard player Richard Wright, who died in 2008 following a "rapid battle with lung cancer".

Mr Gilmour told Guitar Player: "I absolutely don’t want to go back. I don’t want to go and play stadiums. I’m free to do exactly what I want to do and how I want to do it."

Over the last six months, the 75-year-old and his wife, novelist Polly Samson, have seen the finishing touches applied to their new home in King's Esplanade on Hove seafront.

The multi-million pound 15-room property has been built on the former site of Medina House, a Turkish baths which lay derelict for years before being bought by the guitarist and his partner in 2015.

They quickly discovered the historic structure was dilapidated beyond repair, and would need to be knocked down.

As Mr Gilmour and his wife went through the planning process, deciding what would be built in its place, they were told by Brighton and Hove City Council that any new structure would need to be built “in a manner which more than echoes the original building”.

The original structure was demolished and, after years of building work, hoardings surrounding their new home were removed last October, with residents impressed by the new design.

Argus reader Margaret Parkes said: “(It was) so lovely watching it being built, and now the end result is amazing - so fresh and inspiring."

Elle Jay agreed, saying: “I like the way he has kept the character of the buildings around him.”
