A PIZZA was the most popular takeaway of choice for residents in Brighton and Hove during the third national lockdown.

Deliveroo has revealed the dishes it delivered the most in the city over the past three months, as restaurants were restricted to offering takeaways only.

It seems fresh ingredients, simplicity and value for money were the top priorities for takeaway lovers, as the most popular dish was a classic Margherita pizza from Fatto a Mano, priced at £8.00.

The Argus:

This was followed by milkshake takeaways from burger chain Five Guys in Brighton in second place, while a chicken ruby curry from Indian restaurant Dishoom - which is available through Deliveroo Editions only - came in third.

Burritos from popular Mexican restaurant La Choza in Brighton were the fourth most common takeaway choice, followed by a classic cod and chips from Wolfies of Hove.

Fatto a Mano, which has three restaurants in the city, in London Road and Gloucester Road in Brighton and in Church Road in Hove, specialises in Naples-inspired pizza, cooked at 450 degrees or more in its huge wood-fired pizza ovens.

The Argus:

The dough is made on site every day and proved for a minimum of 24 hours, which means minimal quantities of yeast are used, making the pizzas "soft and pillowy", light and easily digestible.

Fatto a Mano only made its first pizza delivery in July last year, amid the pandemic, having historically only offered a collection service as well as having customers eat-in.

The restaurant has also been supporting the Brighton Food Bank since 2019, and has been making donations from its pizza delivery sales during lockdown.

Together with Deliveroo, Fatto a Mano donated more than £2,100 from its pizza delivery sales throughout the month of March, with each of the brands donating 10p for every pizza ordered for delivery from Fatto a Mano’s website, or the Deliveroo app.

The restaurant's founder Rupert Davidson said: "Our local independent pizzerias are committed to supporting the community we live and work in, including foodbanks who are doing essential work providing food, advice and emotional support to some of those most in need.

"Our team is so excited to be getting back to serving customers to eat in, with pizzas served hot, straight out of our ovens.”

Fatto a Mano has reopened its outdoor seating areas for diners at its three pizzerias in Brighton and Hove, as well as its restaurant in Boxpark in Croydon.

No bookings are required – customers can just turn up and staff will find a table.

The restaurant is due to open its indoor areas on May 17, in line with the government's roadmap out of lockdown.
