ARMED police have arrested six people, including a teenage boy, after a brawl involving bricks and baseball bats.

Firearms officers were called to a report of a fight in Horsfield Road, Lewes, last night just before 8.10pm.

The trouble started with an altercation between four men and escalated, with reports of ten people fighting and damaging vehicles with bricks and baseball bats.

One man suffered a laceration to his head and was taken to hospital for treatment. Another man and two woman sustained injuries but did not need hospital treatment.

Firearms officers attended due to the report of weapons being used and arrested two men aged 25 and 21, a boy aged 16 and three women aged 51, 21 and 32 on suspicion of various offences including affray, assault and criminal damage.

They are in custody apart from the 32-year-old woman, who has been released under investigation.

Inspector Justin Ingham said: “We responded swiftly after receiving reports of disorder and fighting in the Landport area of Lewes on Wednesday night. Officers made a number of arrests and enquiries are continuing today.

“This type of incident will not be tolerated in our local community. We are increasing our patrols in the area and would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the events last night or has any information which can help our investigation.”
