The next memorable opening day fixture for Albion fans has to be when a club hero came back to the club.

Bobby Zamora made his return to Albion in 2015 after leaving 12 years earlier. The club hero, who was not in the matchday squad, watched as the Seagulls edged past a tough Nottingham Forest side.

Kazenga LuaLua scored the only goal of the game in the 50th minute. The forward scored a brilliant solo goal from a tight angle, before celebrating in an acrobatic fashion.

Albion did ride their luck in the match at times as Tyler Walker failed to convert from a goalmouth scramble and Henri Lansbury’s free-kick that scrapped the post.

Chris Hughton praised the match winners’ performance, saying: “Kazenga is a winner and had a good game. You want to see that from your wide players.”

The win started the Seagulls off on a 21-game unbeaten run, despite this good start the season did end in disappointment as Sheffield Wednesday beat them in the Championship play-offs.
