HEAVY rain and strong winds are expected to batter the county tomorrow and a yellow weather warning has issued by the Met Office.

Rain showers could see localised flooding and disruption to transport across Sussex tomorrow.

Beginning at midday, heavy rain is expected to batter most of the county, including Brighton and Hove, until 10pm.

There is a small chance that homes, and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings, the Met Office warned.

A spokesman said: “Strong winds and heavy rain during Saturday afternoon and evening, leading to some disruption to travel.

“Spray and flooding on roads is probable and could make journey times longer.

“Some delays to road, rail and air transport are likely. Some short term off of power and other services is possible.

“It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and large waves.”

In today’s outlook, it is expected to stay dry and clear but cloud and wind is expected to develop as the evening goes on.

We can expect to see more rain tomorrow, with strong winds making it feel much cooler compared with recent days.

The minimum temperature this evening will be 5 °C.

Strong gales are expected, especially along the coast. Temperatures will reach a maximum of 18 °C.

The start of next week also looks set to be windy with further rain and showers.

The Met Office says temperatures are likely to be below average.

Here's the Met Office forecast, which may be subject to change:

Tonight:

Dry and clear during the evening and first part of the night, with chilly temperatures in rural spots. Cloud and wind increasing later, with the odd shower possible by dawn. Minimum temperature 5 °C.

Saturday:

Increasingly wet and windy through the morning, with heavy rain arriving by lunchtime. Gales developing for many, perhaps severe along coasts. Wind easing later. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

After early rain clears, largely dry with coastal showers Sunday. Showery Monday, these heavy at times and perhaps thundery. Breezy both days. Potentially wet and windy again on Tuesday.
