A POPULAR ice rink has returned to Brighton after a year's absence due to Covid-19.

The ice rink at the Royal Pavilion reopened for the first time in two years on Saturday.

Dubbed the UK's most picturesque ice rink, it is the only one of its kind in the UK powered exclusively by green energy.

Shella Parkin, marketing director of Laine Ltd which puts on the rink every year, said “In this year of all years, when the UK is hosting COP26 in November, we hope other events will follow suit and undertake to switch to green energy for their power needs.

“With this in mind, that we are delighted to announce Eventim as our sponsor for this year, who, as Europe’s largest ticketing agency, are fully committed to building a greener future for events.”

Martin Fitzgerald, marketing director of Eventim UK, said “We’re delighted to be working with the Royal Pavilion Ice Rink and are focused on delivering a positive ticketing experience for their customers.”

After a year hiatus, the rink offers more space this year, so visitors have plenty of room on the ice.

There are also half hour breaks between sessions to allow for social distancing and cleaning.

The festive attraction allows people the chance to go ice skating and have a drink at the Rinkside Bar and Kitchen.

In the bar, people can choose from warm snacks and a selection of refreshments ranging from mulled wine to hot chocolate with marshmallows.
