A BAND have released a Christmas single in aid of a homelessness prevention charity.

Money raised from the sales of During Christmas Day by Brighton-based band The Qwarks will be donated to Knight Homeless Support.

The song features residents of Bedford Square along with the three band members Phil Johnstone, Nick Flowers and Simon Young.

Guitarist and singer Phil hopes the video will help rough sleepers in Brighton.

"The video was great fun. Bedford Square really pulled together and we fully got into the Christmas spirit - perhaps too much as the video may attest to,” he said.

“Knight Support does fantastic work in supporting the homeless, so we hope to raise some funds however small, to contribute to this cause".

The charity was founded by Lynne Knight after she was diagnosed with PTSD and alcohol addiction, leaving her facing homelessness with her family.

Lynne and her children decided to use their spare time to gather and distribute supplies, clothing and food to the homeless across the city.

“I have a life worth living today, I have purpose and I get to see the priceless help so many people have for our homeless friends,” she said.

“We have a team of truly inspirational people who, like me, give and devote their time to making a difference to homeless people in Brighton and Hove.”

In the music video The Qwarks and other locals are seen dancing and performing in the square, all in festive-themed fancy dress.

Drummer Nick said: “What a day of fun we had in Brighton, great place. Our home town, where you can be yourself and come for a top day out.

"My favourite part of the video was the little pug dog enjoying The Qwarks new Christmas song.

“If you download this vid, then you're helping the homeless, and all the great work done by the night shelter."

Simon, the bands bassist, said: "As Alastair Sim once said to Charles Dickens, ' I am as light as a feather, I am a happy as an angel, I am as merry as a school-boy. I am as giddy as a drunken man, I will help the homeless, and wish a psychedelic Christmas to one and all’.”
