A KEBAB shop owner is delighted to see his “hard work” pay off after his takeaway was nominated for a national food award for the second year running.

Mark Bursa, owner of Bursa Kebab, said his team will enjoy a “nice break” as they travel up to London to attend the 2022 British Kebab Awards after being shortlisted for the customer satisfaction category.

Bursa Kebab won the same category at the 2021 ceremony in October, with Mark putting their success down to having a “nice energy and working with a smile on their faces.”

The 2021 awards were delayed until October due to Covid, but this year’s awards are taking place at its normal time on Tuesday, March 1.

Some of the judges include broadcaster James O’Brien, education secretary Nadhim Zahawi and Brighton Kemptown MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle.

Bursa Kebab, in Newhaven High Street, had to contend with some of the best kebab shops in the country to win its last award. Mark hopes they can repeat that success next week.

Mark told The Argus: “It’s great to be recognised and nominated for such an award, it’s a privilege. It’s a good day to celebrate but also to have a little break from the hard work you do throughout the year.

“We can relax for the day and obviously hope for the best. If we do come out on the winning side, it’s a bonus but if not it’s still a good recognition to be nominated and to be there.

“British Kebab Awards does give you the recognition to the industry which we’re grateful for. It gives the industry a helping hand to better themselves as individual outlets. It motivates businesses and gives them a purpose to be the best they can be.”
