POLICE were forced to issue a dispersal order near a beach after reports of criminal activity.

The Section 34 Dispersal Order was put in place in Shoreham after officers responded to reports of criminal damage and arson in the area.

A Dispersal Order gives police the power to ask a group of two or more people to leave the area if they are doing anything wrong, or if they believe that they may or are likely to cause a nuisance to someone else.

On Thursday, an Adur and Worthing Police spokesman said: “As part of a busy shift and in response to recent reports of criminal damage, arson and suspicious acts, where a section 34 Dispersal Order was put in place for Shoreham by sea, foot patrols have continued.

“Please continue to report to us any ASB concerns by calling 101 or report online.”
