FOOTBALLING legends helped to raise thousands of pounds as a community charity kicked off its summer of fundraising with a day of golf.

Albion stars Glenn Murray and Guy Butters joined 70 others for the Brighton AND Hove Albion Golf Day at the Mannings Heath course in Horsham last month.

The group raised £40,000 for Albion in the Community (AITC), which will provide 2,100 disability football sessions.

Mark Barkaway, who organises fundraising for AITC, said: "Events like these are crucial for us to be able to carry out our work across Sussex.

"Everybody had a great time, and we raised a fantastic sum; the day was a real success.

"The generous support we received at the golf day, and indeed at every fundraising event, goes such a long way in ensuring we can reach people who need our help."

The golfing event marked the start of AITC’s summer fundraisers, the next of which will be a one-day cycling event across the South Downs on Sunday, July 24.

Riders can choose between a 40, 70, or 110 kilometre route, with all money raised going towards the charity's community work.
